FAQs

WHY SILICONE?

FDA approved food grade silicone is Non-hazardous, odourless and Non- toxic in nature. This simply means that it does not contain BPA, latex, lead and other harmful by-products making it completely safe to use, it is Microwave safe, freezer safe, oven safe, dishwasher and also safe for food-storage and take- away.

Silicone is BPH Free, non-toxic and un-hazardous, unlike plastic that ends up in landfills. Not only is plastic bad for the planet, but it also causes serious health problems like cancer, infertility and immune disorders, it contains one of the most notorious chemicals called BPA or Bisphenol A. Silicone is safer and friendlier to us and the earth.

WHY REUSE?

Plastic items from takeaway food and drink dominate the litter in the world's oceans, according to the most comprehensive study to date. Single-use bags, plastic bottles, food containers and food wrappers are the four most widespread items polluting the seas, making up almost half of the human-made waste, researchers found, due to their widespread use and extremely slow degradation.

Our containers are built to last and last to ensure that they can more than offset the carbon emissions used to make them in the first place and even at the end of that they can be recyled.

Our research found in 2018, the disposal of single-use packaging from online food orders in Australia led to 5600 tonnes of carbon dioxide-equivalent (C02-e) emissions. The sector is growing by more than 15 per cent each year, which means the packaging emissions will reach 13,200 tonnes of C02-e in 2024. We hope you like us want to break that cycle.

IS IT LEAK PROOF?

Leak proof for wet foods like yogurts, salads, re heatable lunches, dips but you must ensure the sides are completely sealed which you can pinch around with your fingers on the burger box.  Not suitable for 100% liquids

HOW DO I MAKE IT LAST?

So we know the facts about waste and we want to ensure we don’t want to add to it.

So here are a few tips to care for your Togo Sun to ensure that it lasts

  •  Our silicone is FDA Food Grade Approved and BPA free.
  • We recommend you don't heat over 180 degrees Celsius to ensure it does not overheat.
  • You can wash in warm soapy water but can also throw it in the dishwasher for an easy clean after every use. Do not put the Platter Bamboo Lid in the Dishwasher.
  • The Outdoor Platter has 100% Organic Bamboo Lid, which is best washed by hand, not soaked. It should not be heated or frozen to ensure that it too lasts for longer.
  • Smells should not linger on our silicone but, if you ever feel they do just soak in vinegar and water for a hour or so to get rid of any odours.
  • Try not to use sharp knives to cut on the silicone to avoid marking or weakening the silicone.

TOGO FOR TAKEAWAY

Remember the keep cup was just an idea once too.

Food Standards Australia New Zealand (FSANZ) confirms that none of the food safety laws in Australia prevent retailers from letting customers use their own containers.

"There are no requirements in the Food Standards Code regarding people bringing their own containers to purchase food from supermarkets, cafes etc.," says FSANZ spokesperson Aimee Griffith. "It is up to the retailer to determine the measures they put in place to ensure food is safe and suitable. "There are no requirements in the Food Standards Code regarding people bringing their own containers. Griffith also says that the agency is unaware of any incidents where people have suffered from food poisoning because they ate food that was bought this way.

However, individual state and territory agencies are responsible for interpretation and enforcement of the code so slightly different guidelines may apply. The NSW Food Authority, for example, stipulates that all food containers must be "thoroughly cleaned [and] sanitised".
